Precision Chrome opened for business in 1967. The Steel Supply Company had just started stocking chrome plated piston rod stock for the fluid power industry and in an effort to provide a reliable source of quality material Precision Chrome began processing Steel Supply’s material. In the beginning, Precision Chrome only processed customer material. It soon became apparent that centerless grinding capabilities would be required. Then, with added polishing operations, Precision Chrome was able to purchase cold drawn or hot rolled turned and polished material and produce a finished product using a single source concept. Shortly after the business was expanded Precision Chrome moved into a new facility with double the original space.
With this complete product capability, Precision Chrome now began marketing to additional customers. The fluid power industry was rapidly expanding during this same time period and another expansion was needed. In 1971 land was purchased and a new facility built that had tripled the space of the previous building. With increased business, that facility was also doubled. Equipment was also added during this time period. Included in the new equipment list were additional centerless grinders, automated polishing equipment, horizontal honing equipment for tube processing and an induction hardening line.
In order to produce quality products, controls
are needed to monitor the entire operation from raw material
receiving, in-process inspections and final product inspection
and acceptance. Chrome plating solutions are controlled on a
regular basis. Chemical composition, temperature and plating
current density are monitored at all times. Daily log sheets
are maintained as part of a permanent record. NIST certified
gauges are used for all measurements.
These rigid processes and controls guarantees a product that is suitable for the intended requirements as stated on the customer purchase order.
